![]() The Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States. It is Congress's highest expression of national appreciation for distinguished achievements and contributions by individuals or institutions.The congressional practice of issuing gold medals to occasionally honor recipients from the military began during the American Revolution. The Congressional Gold Medal is an award bestowed by the United States Congress. Is it that those soldiers' actions did not rise to a certain level? I commend the folks who proposed the Congressional Gold Medal but, why not the "Highest" honor? If the Congressional Gold Medal is the best the country can do for those who sacrificed their lives.īut, is a Congressional Gold Medal given in addition to or in lieu of a Medal of Honor?
